«— The Christmas number of the « Windsor' is a volume of IGO pages, with an additional fupplement containing a complete novel, called ' Mistress Dorothy Marvin,' from the pen of J. C. Snai:h. Zangwill, Rider Hag-. £ard, Barry Pain, Boothby, Oppenheim, Phillips, and Barr are among the other contributors of serial matter for this marvellons shilling's worth. From Oppenheim's sketch of 'A Mad Christmas' we make one excerpt:—" Certainly, if there is one time more than another when a bachelor commences to doubt whether his *tate of single blessedness is the most desirable form of existence, it is at Christmastide. The joys of the season are essentially lomestic joys; and every one is either looking forward to convivial meetings with a chela of relations and friends or a happy reunion within his own family. At such 8 time a middle-aged bachelor with no rela tions feels rather out of it."
