SPORTING INTELLIGENCE.
After running in the Foxton Cup yesterday Hangfire dropped dead, having broken a blood vessel. Advance shares with Bobadil and Paul Pry pride of place in the Newmarket Handicap, all being assigned 9.11. In the Australian Cup La Carabine is top weight with 9.13, Paul Pry having 9.8 and Advance 9.7, while Seahorse is weighted at 8.12. In the Doncaster Handicap at the A.J.C. meeting Advance heads the list with 9.15, Paul Pry having 9.9, Ranfurly 9 8, and Bobadil 9.6. The Sydney bandicapper also places the New Zealand champion en top in the Sydney Cup, the leading weights for which are Advance 9.10, La Carabine 9.9. Taro,uin, Paul Pry, and Bobadil 9.2. The remaining events at Foxton yesterday resulted thus:—Stewards' Hack, Illumination (£6 16s); Summer Handicap, Hotu (£4 10s); Welter Hack, Flying Jib (£3 19s). The Gore Bacing Club will receive totalisator money for investment on the usual conditions.
At the recent tournament held in Christchurch Miss F. Campbell won the Ladies' Handicap Singles. Miss Campbell won the first set, and when the second set was 4—2 Miss Nunnely was scratched, thus leaving Miss Campbell the winner.
