CITY COUNCIL REPORTS.

The following is a summary of the Teports which will be, presented at to-morrow evening's meeting of the City Council:— The Water Committee recommend that Mr G. Clarke's offer to keep down the rabbits on unlet Corporation waterworks land for the sum of £65 per annum, the Corporation finding the poison, estimated not to exceed £lO, be accepted.- The city surveyor has been instructed to act with the chairman in seeing Mr G. <H. Barr as to the amount of landrequired for filter beds in connection with the proposed reservoir at Maori Hill, and to instruct Mr John Reid to purchase the amount of land required; to act as to Tepairs required on the Silverstream -water race TheCommitteo have decided to pay Messrs Stronach Bros, and Morris 5 per cent, deposit on the purchase money of Mr McMillan's property at Whaxe Flat, the balance to be paid at the end of the Council's financial year, 31st March, 1901. The General Committee recommend, with reference to the motion to provide for municipal supervision of sewer connection, that the matter stand over until the new city engineer is appointed. During the past month 806 cattle, 4,386 sheep, 2,774 lambs, 221 pigs, and 114 calves were slaughtered at the abattoirs, of which 4 cattle; 2 sheep, and 2 lambs were condemned as unfit for food. The Committee have decided to take no action in the matter of the mandatory provisions in the Municipal Corporations Act, 1900, as requested by the Oamaru Borough Council. Five hundred feet of new leather hose is authorised to be ordered from England for the Dunedin City Fire Brigade. James Conway has been appointed to fill tho vacancy in the Dunedin City Fire Brigade caused by the resignation of Charles Roberts, who -was acting as substitute for Fireman Mliean.

The Finance Committee report, having declined the application from the Otago Farmers' Co-operative Association for remission of three months' rent of railway siding to their premises in Cumberland street. Rebate of half general and special rates, amounting to £1 6s, and half water rates, amounting to 13s, has been granted to Mrs S. Stentiford on the property in Maclaggan street from which a house has been removed over six months.

The Gas Committee report having authorised an order being sent Home for gas fires required, the lauded cost being about £195.

The Public Works Committee recommend that the application on behalf of Mrs Christiana Dorothea Cutten for consent to a right-of-way on section 49, block 16, Dunedin, bs approved. Tenders have been authorised to be called for another three years for the contract for the removal of dust and bouse refuse in the City, the Corporation providing the carts.
