PERSONAL.
Mr W. Crombie, tho popular station- - master at Dunedin, has been promoted tobe district traffic manager at Greymoutb, vice Mr C. A. Piper, transferred to Wanganui. While the travelling public will greatly miss Mr Crombie, whose urbanity and courtesy have become proverbial, everyone; will be glad to hear of him having gained a Btep in the service, in which he has been; employed since March 1877. He has also, ■seenseventeen years' service in the railway service of the Old Country. Mr D. A. Aiken, travelling inspecting accountant and inspector of pursers of the Union Company, returns to Dunedin by thh. express train. Mr Aiken has been relieving manager of the company's Wellington branch during the period of Mr W. A. Keanedy's illnoss, and he has just; finished a. departmental inspection on tho West Coast.
Trooper William J. Martin, a member of the Canterbury section of the- Sixth Contingent and an old Mornington boy, came to Dunedin last night to see his family and friends, and thia morning left by the express for Wellington to go into camp. He was seen off by a number of friends at the station and given a rousing cheer as the train moved off. , v
