THE ORIENT'S CONTINGENT.

The Imperial Veterans' Alliance, under" the' presidency of Colonel Morris, held a well-attended general meeting on Saturdayevening. The colonel announced the arrangements made for a parade to receive the invalided colonial trooper on Wednesday next, and, as in the absence of necessary information, these arrangement* are not complete, he and Captain Davies undertook to see to their completion. Amongst the correspondence dealt with was a warmly-ex-pressed and cordiallv-received letter from Veteran T. Henry (Clinton), late 18th Royal Irish, suggesting*, inter alia, that the Aliiaoce should make a strong effort. to'?enteftain the expected Imperial detachments at a sfnoke concert. The sentiments-expressed met unanimous approval, but as these detachments number about .1,000 men, and are, moreover, to remain here for only one day, the suggestion could not be adopted. Hope was expressed that every old soldier and bluja-cket in the province will join the parade of the Alliance, to receive the representatives of their old corps, and will watch for advertisements of said parade. Formal business having been transacted, the rest of the evening was devoted to tobacco and chat, some of the veterans being pretty good hands at both.

Preparations have been commenced by the Patriotic Committee for decorating George street, Port Chalmers, for the reception of the returned troopers by the Orient. The woodwork for the triumphal arch is already in position. The mayors of Dunedin and Port Chalmers paid a formal visit this afternoon to'H.M.S. Mildura. to arrange matters in connection with the reception of the returning troopers per Orient. '
