MUNICIPAL.
Rosltn.—The ordinary meeting of the Borough Council on Friday was attended by Crs Kemnitz (in the chair), Philp, Wedderspoon, Shuttleworth, Hunter, Davie, Drew, J. Wilson, Sunderland, and Sim.—Correspondence was dealt with, and in answer to a communication from Mr G. M. Barr iu regard to a water supply for the borough Mr Barr was invited to meet the Committee at their next meeting.—The Works Committee reported that the cost of laying a drain from Font street, south end, to-the Kaikorai main drain was estimated at £lO 17s. They had purchased allotment 22, Kaikorai township, for the sum of £225, and the buildings thereon for the sum of £l5O. The report was adopted.—The Finance Committee recommended that a new by-law be made to amend the fees payable for the issue of building permits. They reported that the bank overdraft amounted to £927. —lt was resolved that the dog registration fee for the current year be fixed at 10s.—Cr Wilson moved—"That the clerk be instructed to draw the attention of the secretary of the Roslyn Tramway Company to the fact that the cost of carrying passengers within the borough on the" extension line does not exceed the sum of one penny." He believed that the company were charging more than one penny within the borough, and if they persisted in doing so the Council would have to sue for a~rebate of any extra charge made. Cr Sim seconded the motion, which was carried.—lt was resolved that the nuestion of resrading Ruthven street be referred to the Works Committee to report; that tenders be called for fifty yards of metal for Ruthven street, in addition to the works submitted to the Works Committee to report; that the inspector be instructed to prepare plans for altering the building lately purchased from the Roslyn Tramway Company ; and that the Dunedin and Kaikorai Tram Company be requested to regrade John street at the corner of the City road within a fortnight; failing compliance with the request, the Council to do the work at' their expense.
