TO THE RATEPAYERS OF THE CITY OF DUNEDIN.

THE TRAMWAYS LOAN. [Per Favor of the Editor of the ‘ Evening Star.’] The citizens of Dunedin are invited on Monday to say whether they are desirous of Continuing the present cumbersome and antiquated system of street locomotion. If not, they will unhesitatingly pronounce in favor of the substitution of ELECTRICITY,, and therefore VOTE YES. As the experience of the world has shown the overhead trolly system to bo the best, cheapest, safest, and most economical system of electric haulage that can be used in a city like Dunedin, they should also VOTE YES. Municipalisation of tram services having proved a huge success in nearly every case where it has been adopted, there is no reason to anticipate that Dunedin will prove any exception to so universal a rule. Therefore, VOTE YES. Do not be misled by interested, biased individuals or SYNDICATES. You can with perfect safety entrust the thirteen men. Constituting your Council, who are actuated solely by a determination to conserve the best interests of the ratepayers, and will do so come what may. Tlie City Council stand committed to no scheme nor to any individual. All that they have done is, with the object of expediting matters, to arrange with a responsible firm of consulting engineers to prepare plans and specifications that will form the basis of the future contracts for an OVERHEAD TROLLY SYSTEM, and which plans, etc., iire subject to such modifications or alterations as the expert advisers of the Council may require. For the foregoing reasons, and in view of the dishonorable tactics adopted at the eleventh hour, with a palpable intention of discrediting the loan, I would EARNESTLY APPEAL TO THE RATEPAYERS to make it their duty to record their votes on Monday IN FAVOR of the proposals of the City Council, which have been adopted after earnest thought and mature consideration, with a sole desire to benefit the City as a whole, R. Chisholm, Mayor.
