There was a good muster on the Belleknowes links on Saturday afternoon, when the May medal competition of the St. Andrews Golf Club took place. Though a strong wind was blowing the ground was in capital condition, and a keen and interesting faille was played. The feature of the afternoon’s play was the brilliant form displayed by Mr G. HutAon, whose performance for so young a player was, indeed, meritorious. His coolness and careful play on the putting greens was the admiration of the onlookers and the hearty round of applause was more merited on the cards being handed in and the result proclaiming him the winner was made known. Mr Basil Smith, whoso total was next in order, was unfortunate in breaking a club while holding a leading position, and would probably have ran the winner much closer but for this mishap. The others who played well were Messis Sueddor, Gregory, Payne, and Houston.

Next Saturday an endeavor to cope with “ Colonel Bogey” will be m&de, and as great interest is being taken in the match to be played on Queen’s Birthday a large attendance may be looked forward to. The game will be started punctually at 2 30 p m.

At Kalgoorlie (W.A.) the Sydney Cup winner D.fSdence returned those who backed her in the local totalisators' handsome dividends. On one 5j place totalisator paying 50, 30, and 20 per cent, there was only one investor on the winner, and he received £69 19). Had it been a straight-out machine the dividend would have been £139 18j for 6s. Melbourne metallioians had a very‘bad day at a recent “off meeting” at Flemington, their estimated losses (hill and flat) being £30,000. Then they started to squeak about Handicapper Dakin’s faulty compilations. The London ‘Sportsman’ is responsible for saying that the Anti-Gambling League are not satisfied With their defeat in the case which was sent to the Law Lord?. They have been advised by eminent counsel that the decision cannot claim authority in aoy future case, unless the same facts shoi ba proved as those admitted without jkcJ 1. the Kempton Park case, and fui ther a Jtion by that body was anticipated.
