A COLONIAL NAVAL RESERVE.

WELLINGTON, November 18. In response to a request from the Admiralty the Customs Department is making a canvass among the seamen and firemen on the coastal vessels for members to form a colonial naval reserve of seamen, who will put in six months’ drill on the warships in the colony and twenty-eight days’ ordinary drill. They will get a retaining fee of £6 per annum for five years. Those who cannot give the time for six months’ drill will receive £3 ss. Firemen are not required to drill, and will get £6.
