AN EXPLANATION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Your account of the accident to my horse and cart yesterday is hardly fair to my driver. The truth of the matter is this : the horse commenced to prance on tho way coming home, and the shafts of the cart bobbing up and down caused the back-band of the saddle to break. The shafts fell down, and the lad fell off the seat. The noise of the shafts scraping on the ground frightened the horse, and then it bolted. It was no fault of the driver ; he did not jump off as you reported.—l am, etc., John Gow, baker. Dunedin, August 24.
