The following is a summary of the reports to be presented at to-morrow night’s meeting of the City Council ; The Public Works Committee recommend that the bank in Alva street be sloped back into Mr J. Connell’s property, for which he had been given permission, and the footpath formed to full width at a cost of £ls, Mr Connell to take down and re-erect all fencing, gates, etc., at his own expense, as suggested by him. That a gas lamp be erected in Castle street, midway between St. David and Dundas streets, as suggested by Mr 6. Daniels and twenty-, three others. • The Gas Committee recommend that E. J. Haydon’e salary be increased from £SO to the rate of £6O per annum. That the wages of G. Healey, gasfitter, be increased to £2 pet week. The town clerk and gas engineer have been authorised to act to the extent of regarding the supply of incandescent burners for street lighting; ; : The General Committee recommend that the town clerk be instructed to, write to Mr J. Mitchell in reply to his letter of the 3rd inst., requesting him to erect proper filter beds to prevent the pollution of the Water of Leith by chemical matter complained of as coming from the Woodhaugh Paper Mills. Mr J. Hislop has been instructed to prepare plana for the erection of the inspector's offices and for the construction of the manure pit at the City, abattoir. The city Surveyor has been instructed to repair the fence of the Northern Recreation Reserve at the cornet of Cumberland and Dundas streets, accidentally damaged by a runaway hpree and cab. t

■The Finance Committee report that the application of the Technical Classes Association for exemption from payment of general and special rates upon their new premises, Moray place, has been granted. The letter from Messrs Bathgate and Woodhouse as to the apportionment of the sinking fund to provide for the loans maturing next year has been referred to His Worship the Mayor, the town clerk, and the city solicitors to act. Accounts amounting to £2,662 Us 3d have been passed for payment.
