TIMARU HIGH SCHOOL BURNED DOWN.

_ TIMARU, August 24. The Timatu High School. Buildings, a massive brick structure which cost , over £5,0(30, were' practically destroyed by fire this morning. The two main rooms and three class rooms at one end were burned out, and three rooms at the other end have the roof burned off. The fire started in one of the class rooms, probably from, a fireplace, the custom being to lay fires overnight in warm grates. The fire was observed at 6 a.m., when it had a good hold, and spread under the roof where the brigade could not get at it. The neighbors saved nearly all the furniture and other contents. The school was only four days from the end of the term, and the scholars were dismissed till temporary arrangements are made. Insurances: £2,360 “each in the Royal and Imperial. ,
