JUBILEE CLEMENCY, AND A RESULT.
Our Eltham correspondent forwards us the following tit-bit of news :—" Inquiries on the part of the police have elicited the information that the man Roderick M'Kenzie recently arrested in Eltham on the supposition that he was the perpetrator of the burglarly at the Stratford Post Office was one of the recipients of Government clemency to several prisoners who were liberated on account of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations. M'Kenzie received a sentence of four years at Napier for burglary, which was further increased by an extra penalty for insubordination while in goal." It would be very interesting to know in .these circumstances why the clemency of'the Crown was extended.—• Hawera Star.'
