A PLEA FOR THE FATHERLESS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —As one always having an eye to our colony and people's welfare, for some time past I noticed that our Industrial School youths, when sent out to the country to work, had no overcoats on, when you or I might well require two, and not be extra warm then. So I took upon myself to write a few lines to the Hon. Mr Walker, Minister of Education, on their behalf. I forward you hi 3 reply.—l am, etc., D. Nicol. Dunedin, August 16.

Office of Minister of Education, \L. Wellington, N.Z., 7th August, 1897/ A Dear sir,—l have to acknowledge, with thanks,', the receipt of your letter of the Ist inst. I will consider your suggestion, and hope to cive effect to it.—l am, etc., W. C. Walker. Mr D. Nicol, Mornington.
