THE DISAFFECTION IN INDIA.
THE AMEER OF AFGHANISTAN IMPLICATED. [Per Press Association.—Copyright.] LONDON, August 14. It is reported from India that a pamphlet issued by the Ameer of Afghanistan advocating a Jehad, or holy war, against unbelievers, has been quietly but widely circulated amongst the Pathan and Sepoy troops of the Indian army. It is also stated that the Ameer recently had a conference with the mollahs, who approved of a Jehad.
Eeuter's representative states that the Ameer has recalled all his India agents, and adds that the impression is increasing that the Ameer is conniving at, if not assisting, the Afghan frontier disturbance. CALCUTTA, August 14.
Extensive preparations are being made for suppressing the rising amongst the Mahomedans who recently attacked Shabkadar, near Peshawar. Two reserve brigades of the Indian army, aggregating 10,000 men, are being concentrated at Eawal Pindi, a town containing large cantonments, nineteen miles east of Peshawar.
