SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
The ordinary meeting of the Bavensbourne School Committee was held on Monday evening, and was attended by the Rev. W. H. Ash (chairman), Messrs Jack, Henderson, George, Minn, and M'Culloch. The headmaster reported the average attendance as 'ill, and the number on roll 227. On the head-master's recommendation, it was decided to close the school daring the first three dayß of next week, and to give the remainder of the winter holidays after the examination. A letter having been received from the Education Board agreeing to effect some of the works asked for by the Committee, it was decided to write thanking the Board and to renew the application for a new class room and other necessary works. Mr George intimated to the Committee that a patriotic concert was to be held on Friday next, the net proceeds of which are to be devoted to the purchase of medals for the children of the district. He a&ked for monetary assistance to make up the sum necessary for the purpose. It was agreed to grant £2 of locally-raised"money.
