SOCIAL MEETINGS.

/ The Cargill road Wesleysin 0. K. Sooiety held their half-yearly meeting last evening. The Rev. S. 0. Brooke presided, and there were about seventy present. The secretary (Miss M. Applegarth) read the report, whioh showed good work done during the halfyear. The society have now forty-three members, as against thirty-five at thf beginning of the half-year. Refreshment* were handed round during the evening, and a good musical programme was gone through, Miss Nellie Swan presiding at the organ. Short addresses were given by the Revs. Drake and Griffin and Mr W. R. Cole. The convenors of several committees also spoke on work done duriog the half-year. The following officers have been'eleoted-.—Presi-dent, Rev. S. G. Brooke; vice-president, Miss Annie Cole; recording secretary, Miss M. Applegarth; corresponding secretary, Mr A. T. M'lndoe; treasurer, Mr W. H. Johnston ; organist, Miss Nellie Swan. A pleasant and profitable meeting was brought to a close by si aging the National Anthem. . The Disciples of Christ Sunday School held their anniversary last night in the Stuart street Hall. The children's tea at half-past six was well attended, after which an entertainment was given, when the hall was crowded. Mr Mazengarb presided. Solos were contributed during the evening by Misses B. M'Kenzie, A. Roberts, Irene and Ivy Mazengarb, and Messrs Torrance and G. M. Campbell. Recitations were given by Alfred, Oswald, Irene, and Ray Mazengarb, Jane Shepherd, Fanny Brown, Nelly Holland, Lizzie Brown, Bella Johnston, Kate Johnston, George Carnie, and Misses M'Kenzie and Kirkby. The Misses Sinclair gave a pianoforte duet, and Douglas Anderson played a piano solo. A choir of forty voices, under the conductorship of Mr W. Alexander, rendered a number of choruses very pleasingly. Miss B. M'Kenzie acted as accompanist during the evening. The entertainment appeared to be greatly enjoyed by all present, every item on the programme being warmly applauded. Prizes were also distributed during the evening by Mr Mazengarb for general Sunday school work, the name 3 of the prize-winners being as follow : —Mrs Alexander's class—Mabel Rush 1. Miss Kirkby ; s class—Kate Johnston 1, Grace Rush 2. Miss Cooke's class—Annie Roberts and Minnie Brown (equal) 1. Miss M'Kenzte's class Lizzie Brown, Irene Mazengarb, and Ivy Mazangarb (tqual) 1. Miss Brown's class—Ray Mazsngarb 1, Christopher Wren 2. Mr Carnie's classGeorge Carnie 1. Special priza for introducing new scholars to the school, Barbara Johnston. In addition to the above, four prizes and eighteen gifts were given to the | children in the infant class. j

A missionary social and sale of work in connection with the New Zealand Baptist Missionary Society was held last night in the Hanover street Baptist Church Hall. The goods displayed were the work of the young ladies and the children attending the working meetings. During the evening Madame Von Look played an organ solo and sang 'lf with all your hearts'; Miss Lena Tresedcr sang ' O rest in the Lord'; Miss Wiseman, ' The Gift'; and Mrs Driver a hymn in Hindostani, with cymbal accompaniment, and also gave a short and interesting missionary address. Mr H. G. Moore (the church organist) and his daughter played an organ and violin duet, and this, like the other musioal items, was thoroughly enjoyed. The promoters of tho sale had every reason to be satisfied with the result of the evening, financially and otherwise. The weekly meeting of the North-east Valley Young Men's Christian Mission was held at the Mission Hall, Normanby, last evening. The president occupied the chair, and delivered an interesting and instructive address upon the subject of ' Jewish Sects and their Origin.' It was reported that services were being conducted by the members in various outlying districts, and that the Mission Sunday School and the preaching services held in the hall were well attended, and in a prosperous condition. A handsome reading desk had been presented to the Mission, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the donors.
