[Per Alameda at Auckland ] The condition of the London money market for May, compared with April, shows that money is plentiful, and that there is little prospect of a change. The Stock Exchange has greatly improved in tone now that it is seen that Europe is not likely to be plunged into a war. The southern provinces of Spain are represented to be in a most deplorable condition owing to the failure of the crop* from prolonged drought, and as a consequence of this, conpled with the efforts of the collectors to gather the last peseta from starving people in taxes, which since the outbreak of the Cuban trouble have b:en intolerable iu amount, agricultural labortts have been driven to something very like a rebellion. Bhi.!s of desperate men are scouring the country side committing all kiuds of excesses. The Actroi BoiJdrogs, where ibe uses are collected upon produce coming into towns, have been sacked, farms pillaged and burned, shops looted, and yet the Government cannot spare soldiers to suppress the brigands or monev to succor the starving pcopk>. Hundreds, in fact, have died of s'arvation, yet the authorities appear to see u6 cause for thaT>p.
