HOW CAVILL WAS DROWNED.
[Fer Alameda at Auckland.] News by the San Francisco mail shows that Charles Cavil!, the champion swimmer of Australia, was drowned at Stockton, California, while giving an exhibition at Jackson's baths. He was in fise condition. His last aot. was to stay uoder water longer than smiu s*ec, the world's record. When Cavill was under six minutes Mr Kahu realised that something was wrong. Be dived for Cavill and brought his body to the surface. Efforts to -restore animation failed. It is believed that Cavill wa3 suffocated by the gas whiob gathers in these baths, as there was no water in the body.
