VEHICULAR TRAFFIC ON THE 22nd.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The suggestion made by the deputation of the Jubilee Demonstration Committee who waited upon the mayor on Thursday morning last—“chat-steps should betaken to stop all vehicular traffic in the main street from 7 p m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, the22ud inst.”—is a prudeut one. Should, however, the suggestion be acted upon and the vehicular traffic suspended, there can bo no doubt bat that au injustice would be done to a large and by no means unimportant section of the community, acd an opportunity lost of making a lasting impression of this memorable event in our national history on the minds of many hundreds of young people. For I think few parents or guardians, howevei indulgent they might bo inclined, would,

out of consideration for themselves and their charges, undertake.so. dMHoulfearisk-yaj. to pilot them through the crowded thoroughfares on that particular evening; If, on the other hand, the vehicular traffic is regulated —the pace to-e. walk, the vehicles kept in line in the centre of the .street, and the haulage power sufficient to mount Prinoes street quietly—the danger to the pedestrian would be reduoed to a Then women and ohildren, young and old, unable and unfitted to hold their own,in a brbwd, would find on tram or drag a secure and safe meanß of enjoying all there will be to be seen that night.—lam, etc., G.G. Dunedin, June 12.
