WELLINGTON.
William Gillespie, formerly a olerk in the post office at Maßterton, who had pleaded guilty to forging postal orders, was released on probation for two years, and ordered to pay costs (£l9 2a 6d) in two months. Arthur Duncan, for the theft of a bicycle, was placed on probation for twelve months, and ordered to pay costs (£8 2<). John Dal ton, convicted on two charges of theft and false pretences, asked for probation, but the Judge pointed out that, he had already served four sentences and was now convicted of two more crimes within a short space of time. He was sentenced to three years' hard labor in each case, to run concurrently. In the case against Mrs Dalton of theft the Crown entered a?io#!e prosequi. This leaves only two cases on the list, and the charge of attempted murder against Eathwhistle is now proceeding.
