At Napier yesterday John Adoane, secretary of Mr K. D. M* Lean’s Elect ion Committee, was charged with having signed his name- to a foim for enrolment purporting to be signed by Eustace Tannin, an absentee. Defendant pleaded not guilty. Tr.c evjdci.ce showed that Fannin, who is a jesident of Gisborne, at the time scat a form written iu pencil to his wife, to be forwarded to the registrar. Adeline said he witnessed the signature of a man who gave the name of Eustace Fannan. The main point rested on the difference of the spelling of the two names. The Bench dismissed the case.
In Chambers at Wellington yesterday, before the Chief -Jus: ice, Mr Jellicou appeared to remove a raa-ai lodged by John Herman against ex-Deteetive Kirby’s property at Napier under a deed executed in July of last year. His Honor made an order that unless Herman began an action in the Supreme Court *o establish his claim before the Ist February the caveco 4 is to be removed, with costs.
Mr Rains, being about to leave for Perth to join in the co-managership of the business of Messrs .Sargood, Butler, Nichol, and Ewcn, was yesterday presented with a handsome water-color painting, the gift of the employes of the firm of Messrs Sargood and Ee.cn, with whom lie has been associated for tome time. Later in the day a number of gentlemen met Mr Rains at Wain's Hotel with the object of wishing him bon voycnj e. Ac the invitation of Mr P. R. Sargood, the company drank to the happiness of Mr and Mrs Rains. William Houghs, a sheepfarmer of Rapier ( was fined and costs yesterday for running sheep from a run declared to be infested by liver fluke. The defendant stated that he had known fluke to exist in the oniony for forty years, and in that particular district for thirty-three years, and it had only just been discovered by the Stock Department.
