The Taranaki-Nelson match, played at New Plymouth, resulted in favor of the home team by 58 runs. Lord Sheffield has cabled a cordial invitation to the Australians to play their first match on his ground at Sheffield Park. The invitation has been accepted, and the Hampshire match, with which it was proposed to open the tour, will be transferred to other dates. While the Australians thoroughly enjoy their visit to Sheffield Park they fully realise the greater responsibility of meeting at the outset practically an All-England Eleven instead of a second-rate county team.
