LONDON, January 23.
Intelligence has been received here that King Prempeh placed his head between the feet of Governor Maxwell, of the Gold Coast Colony, and pleaded that he only possessed 6020z of gold and was unable to pay the indemnity of £50,000. Governor Maxwell remains at Coomassie with 600 Houssa troops and a contingent of the West Indian Eegiment.
