When the steamer Manaia was crossing the Patea bar on Monday afternoon in the face of a heavy sea the foremast rigging band snapped in two, bringing down the rigging and gear. No one was hurt.

The brigantine Sarah and Mary and schooner Alert are clear of cargo. The ship Auckland is makfng good progress with the discharge of her cargo at the cross wharf.

The Herald leaves Dunedin wharf at 10 p.m. to-day for the West Coast via Northern ports. A steamer passed the Heads bound North this morning. A large steamer passed Cape Brett at noon yesterday—probably the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s cargo steamer Pakeha, now due from London
