Wallace is a firm favotite for the V.R.G. Derby, and the best offer against him is 7 to 4. Waterfall is nominally at 2to 1. Delaware is favorite for the Cup at 10 to 1. Hova, ’Trenchant, Quiver, Wallace, and Waterfall are being backed at 100 to 7. Hopscotch is friendless at 100 to 5. Taranaki is supported at 100 to 4. OCTOBER 23.

Auraria arrived from Adelaide last night. Speculation last evening was limited. 500 to 250 was laid against Wallace for the Derby, and 400 to 100 Auraria. The Trier and Taranaki were backed for the Cup at 1,000 to 40. Delaware is firm at 100 to 10. Lochlee, Lochaber, and the Lady Koodee colt are scratched for the Derby. ■ ll ■ r THE C.J.C. MEETING. A Christchurch telegram gives the following as the latest betting quotations on the New Zealand Cup:—loo to 12 Marino, 100 to 10 North Atlantic, 100 to 9 Skirmisher, 100 to 8 Sternchaser, Impulse, Outpost, Waiuku, Chaos, and Gipsy Grand, 100 to 7 Prime Warden, 100 to 6 Solitaire and The Artist, 100 to 5 to 100 to 2 the others.

“ The Admiral” wired to-day “ Mahaki pulled up sore after a gallop at Gisborne yesterday, and will not fulfil his Canterbury engagements. Waiuku goes South per Takapuna this evening, but he is likely to be reserved for sprint races.” Macaroni won the Steeplechase at Gisborne and paid £ll 6s.
