WELLINGTON, October 21,
At the Appeal Court the case of Regina v. Bern is being argued. Bern was a Dunedin hotelkeeper whom the jury found guilty on various counts of failing to keep proper books and to aecount for certain property. It is contended that the finding of the jury does nob really amount to a verdict of guilty, as they found on special facts, which arc not the whole of the facts essential to constitute au offence.
