THE WRECKAGE ON THE AUCKLANDS.

CHRISTCHURCH, October 20.

It is considered likely that the wreckage found on the Auckland Islands is that of the Stoneleigh, a four-masted barque, missing o» the voyage from Melbourne to London. The wood and ironwork are those of a large, new vessel, and the wool is Australian and thickly infested with the Bathurst burr. It was reported some time ago that the Stoneleigh bad been spoken ill 156deg W. longitude and 49deg 8. latitude, when she musfb have passed the Aueklands. Captain Waller, of the Flora, however, reports that when in command of the Rotomahana )je passed the Stoneleigh between Tasmania and New Zealand, steering a course that would take her close to the Aueklands. ft seems possible that this Shaking is referred to, and that through somebody’s error west longitude was substituted for east. The Stoneleigh left Melbourne, on February 27 for London. The underwriters some time ago paid the insurance on the vessel.
