Thei steamer Gulf of Siam lost nine head of cattle and eleven horses on the voyage from Sydney, The remainder of the shipment arrived in good condition.

The Gulf of Siam’s horses and cattle died from congestion of the lungs, caused by the intense cold experienced during the first fortnight. The best horses died. The underwriters have agreed to insure live cattle for ten guineas.
