THE OTAGO REGATTA.

Owing to the inclement weather which prevailed on Boxing Day it was found necessary to postpone the rowing events, which came off on Saturday afternoon at Port Chalmers. There was a fresh N.E. breeze, and the water was rather lumpy. Owing to soliie of the crews who were selected by the clubs to row on Boxing Day being unable to take part owing to business and other engagements only one boat started for the Champion Four- oared Race; and scratch crews were formed for the other events. For the inrigged events the boats uninjured on Boxing Day Had a decided advantage over those not thoroughly repaired, the Queen's Drive and the D.A.B. Clubs being sufferers in this respect. In the Junior Fours the North End and the Otago Clubs' boats, being unprotected by splashboards, Bpeedily tilled. The Otago crew soon gave up, but the North End pluckily rowed the course, although their boat was nearly full of water, and the crewsj with the exception of the Queen's Drive* decided that it would be un .vise to start in the championship race. There was only a moderate attendance, but the proceedings were enlivened by selections played by the Port Chalmers Garrison Band. Praise is due to Mr G. Hendry, hori. secretary, for the efficient manner in which he discharged his duties. The first race started at 3.15 p.m., but it was nearly 7 p.m. before the last event was finished.
