The notico of reduction given to the miners in the Seaham and Wallsehd collieries, which expires to-day, has been extended for another fourteen days. The Hetton miners, numbering 240, have already struck against the reduction'. The Miners' Delegate Board of Newcastle have decided by an overwhelming majority to resist the proposed reduction in the hewing rate', and, on the, other hand will demand an increase of 4d per ton. , WELLINGTON, December 31. .The Son. Mr Reeves visited the .labor settlements in Victoria, New South Wales, and South Australia. He was most impressed with the. irrigation colonies in the latter on the Murray River. They are conducted on co-operative principles, but are still in infancy. The oldest is ten months old, but already 2,000 people are settled in them. He considers the working of these settlements the most interesting experiment of the moment to the whole world. Mr Reeves met with the greatest courtesy in his travels, and everything was done to enable him to travel with the least possible loss of time.
