The members of the new Cabinet were gazetted last night as follows : Premier, Works, Mines, and Defence ... ... MrSGnnou. Attorney-General, Colonial Secretary, and Marine... Sir P. A. Buckley. Education, Stamps, and Labor ... Mr W. P. Reeves. Lands and Immigration, Agriculture, Forests ... Mr J. M'Kenzie. Treasurer, Postal and Telegraphs, Customs ... Mr J G.Ward. Justice MrCADMAN. Native Representative (without portfolio) ... Mr J. CaRROI.I. It will be seen that the new Ministry consist entirely of the remaining members of the Ballance Cabinet. The principal changes of office outside the accession to the Premiership by the Hon. R. J. Seddon have been the transfer to the Hon. J. G. Ward of the portfolio of Treasurer and Commissioner of Customs, and the passing of the Marine Department from the new Premier to Sir P. A. Buckley. Mr Seddon, after fully considering the situation with his colleagues, has undertaken to carry on the Administration on similar lines of policy to those followed by the Ballance Ministry until the meeting of the Ministerial party at the opening of the session, when the party will be asked to determine as to whether the present arrangement shall continue.

The present Ministerial arrangement is merely looked upon by all concerned as holding good till the meeting of the party at the beginning of the session, when the whole question will be submitted to them. The position was as wired you yesterday, but, after repeated conferences, Ministers at last concluded it impolitic to have any change in the jieraonnel at present. Therefore it was decided to go qn. Mr John Joyce pressed his claims for the Education portfolio very hard. The proposal to appoint Mr T : Thompson as Minister of W°''ks was popu ; lar, and it was thought he would make an excellent Minister, being shrewd, clearheaded, straight, and trusted. The Education portfolio \vas the greatest difficulty. .Sir R. Stout now permits nomination for Inangahua, and will quietly await the decision of the party as to his taking the Leadership if they desire it when the House meets.
