SUICIDE OF A PRISONER.
A prisoner named John M'Manncring committed suicide in New Plymouth Gaol an S,uih%, At an inquest held yesterday afternoon the following particulars of life death were obtained :—He was arrested on Saturday last on a charge of drunkenness. He was then suffering from delirium tremens, and was sent to gaol on remand. On Sunday morning the prisoner appeared better, but on the warder visiting bis cell in the evening he was found hanging dead. He had torn up his bed clothes, made a rope by tying the pieces together, fastened it to the iron grating in the<oeil used as a ventilator, and then hanged himself. A verdict of " Suicide while suffering frojn temporary insanity, the result of Heavy drinking," was returned. ■' ; p
