FIRE BRIGADES CONFERENCE.
CHRISTCHURCH, March 14.
The Conference this afternoon decided that no member shall be entitled to either the Association certificate medal or bar unless he attends two-thirds of the masters of his brigade, except when prevented by sickness or leave of absence; that'some better method of deciding wet finishes be adopted in competitions, either by electricity or some other way more certain than the present; that brigades not sending in returns and rales of members by July 31 be debarred from all the privileges of the Association till after the next competition; that in the event of a team from any brigade attending a demonstration and not taking part in the same the Executive may refuse to allow such team their travelling expenses; that firemen attending Association competitions or conference mast travel in uniform, and that the Railway Commissioners be asked to issue passes only to firemen in uniform. March 15. The Fire Brigades’ Conference resumed this morning, when fifty brigades were represented. The report of the Revision of Rules Committee was received. Most of tbe morning was taken up discussing the
alterationi of the Executive, and it was recommended that if satisfied with the evidence to present a certificate to young Price, a messenger of the South Dunedin Brigade, who saved two brothers from death by burning. It was decided to present Mr W. F. Garner, late of the Napier Brigade, with a medal to replace the one lost at the fire.
The Mayor of Napier, by telegraph, in* vited the Association to hold a demonstration there next year. The request could not be accepted in view of the resolution fixing the demonstration held in alternate years only; bnt the Conference hoped the invitation would be extended for 1894.
It was decided to invite the brigades to suggest and vote a place for the next annual meeting only, and the Executive on that vote to accept one oi the invitations.
