An unusual number of the regulars engaged in the autumn manoeuvres in England fell out during the marches, though not laden with marching kit. 111-fitting boots and the poor physique of the young recruits are credited with this state of things. In 361 towns and oities of Massachusetts 248 now have free public libraries, and 'the State has lately provided for the 103 small tpwns and villages which have no libraries.
