CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I think I can guess who is the party alluded to in your extract from the ' Ciutha Leader,' and if I am correct in my surmise I would just say that a story is generally good till the other side iB told. This is the other Bide: The party alluded to never "gave" the Caledonian Society LIOO, or any other sum. He may, with many others, have lent the society money, for which he would be paid good interest. He was not denied the " humble boon " of obtaining a job in connection with the annual gathering, but, as he carefully abstained from even professing to do the duty which he was paid for doing, his services were dispensed with on the second day of the gathering. The society do give oharitable relief, but do not continue to pay to have a duty undertaken, ignored, and neglected, and the conduct of their business disorganised.—l am, etc., Director. Dunedin, January 9.
