WELLINGTON, January 9.
The Government have arranged to charter the Oamaru dredge for six months to carry out the dredging in the New Plymouth Harbor, for which L 3,000 was voted last session.
The Central Board of Health declare that they have no power to order the barque Inverurie from Napier to quarantine in Wellington. MASTERTON, January 9.
Waylay'B flax mill, on the Waipori River, was destroyed by fire yesterday. There was no insurance. The loes is estimated at L3OO.
WANGANUI, January 9.
Te Kooti left for his home to-day. During his stay at Purikino he refused to appear iu public whilst Europeans were present, it being said he was ashamed to face the pakehas after the Poverty Bay atrocities. Major Kemp still remains at Parikino, together with a large number of Natives, who are being sumptuously entertained at Wanganui. The tribes' meeting has no political significance whatever, being simply a lavish ostentatious display of Maori hospitality. OAMARU, January 9.
H.M.S. Ringarooma steamed into port this afternoon, at low water, drawing about 16ft. A hearty welcome will be given Captain Bourke and his officers.
