TO THE EDITOR. Sia,—ln a contribution which was published in your issue of Saturday last, under the heading of “Prohibition in Canada,” appears the following utterance of the Hon, Gecige E. Foster, Minister of Finance for the Dominion:—"! do not count a gold dollar one single moment in the balance against one single ray of light or happiness that comes into the humblest home in this country,” A noble sentiment truly, and worthy so great a cause as temperance. Scarcely, however, was the ink dry upon the article communicated to your paper before the news is flashed from Ottawa, per cablegram, as follows “ The Canadian Scandals; The Hon. G. E. Foster, Minister of Finance, is accused of corrupt practice in subsidising the West Indian Steam Company.” Eow many “gold dollars” the hon. gentleman counted into his own pocket over the transaction deponent sayeth not, nor do the facts require any comment.—l am, etc., A Moderate Canadian.
