ENTERTAINMENTS.

An interesting, and at times amusing, debate on the 'Female Franchise' was held between the members of the John street Baptist and Oatgll road Wealeyan Mutual Improvement Sooietiea on Thursday evening. After an animated discussion, led by Mr H. Earland for the affirmative, and Mr 3. Bridgman for the negative, a vote resulted in favor of the franchise by 24 votes to 23. The annual leanion of Messrs Levy, Guthrie, and Co.'a employes held in the Choral Hall on Friday, proved a great success, about eighty couples being present. The hall was verj tastefully decorated with flags and evergreen?, and reflected great credit on those who oarrkd out the arrangements. During the evening songs were contributed by Misses Lee, Guthrie, and Gawne, and Mr Yates; while Master Popham danced a Highland fling and tailor's hornpipp, Mr Bills a seantreup, and Messrs Coion a double Irish jig. The catering was left in the hands of Mr Meyers, of Ro'lyn, and the musio was supplied by the Tates brothers. Messrs O. Coxon and if. Bills acted as M.C.B. The fifteenth annual reunion of the employes of Messrs Hallecstein Bros. waß held in the City Hall on Friday, and was a great success. The whole of the arrangements were undertaken by a oommlttee of ladies, and the affair was a credit to them. The hall was nicely decorated with flags and evergreens. There waa an attendance of about 130 couples, the music being supplied by Messrs Kobectshaw, Dallas, and Stewart, while tha catering was well carried out by Mr Meyers. Messrs M'lndoe, Forrester, Griffen, and Nicolaon acted asM.C.B.
