MEETING OF CREDITORS.

. » BE ANNIE SMITH. A meeting of oreditors in the estate of Annie Smith, of Dunedin, storekeeper, was held in the Official Assignee's office this afternoon. There were six creditors presfmt. Mr Wilkinson appeared for Soott Bros. Bankrupt's statement showed unseoured oreditors, L 5 7s lid; secured creditor, Lls 6a (value of security, L 25); assets—consisting of stook -in - trade (L2O), book debts (LI s*), surplus from security (L 9 14s)—L30 19s. The secured creditor hj G. Green, of North-east Valley, who holds a bill of sale over the furniture on the premises, situate at the corner of York place and Rattray street.

Bankrupt, examined, said that she had been in the shop for seven months. When she went in she had L7O clear of liabilities. The average weekly takings were L 3 or L 4 at first, but they fell off, until lately they were under Ll. Witoess was married and had four children. Her husband had been at home for five months, but was at present in work. Very little had been lost through bad debts. She borrowed L 25, getting L 23 cash, and paid off about LlO. The furniture in the house was worth L 35. Witness had been ill for a month, and three of the children had also been laid up, two of them having to be put' out to nurse for four months, at.a cost of 16s per week for the two. The cost of keeping the house was about L2 a week. The Assignee said it was obvious from the payments the bankrupt had to make that she oould not carry on. Mr Wilkinson: She has just been living on creditors' money. In answer to questions, Bankrupt said that while she was ill the business was kept going by her mother, to whom she cave L 6 besides her keep. Her husband nad no interest in the business. She did not tell Mr Wilkinson's olerk within the last few weeks that all rent was paid np. Within the last two months witness knew she was going back. Bankrupt oould not say whether her husband 'was an undischarged bankrupt or not. She was married at the end of last year. It was deoided, on the motion cf Mr Robinson, to leave the stock open for private auction for two days; if not sold then, the Assignee to sell by auction. A motion recommending bankrupt for her discharge was carried by value. The meeting was adjourned sine die.
