The Auckland Liberal Association gave a welcome to Mr Cox, M.P, for Clare, as a representative of Liberalism in the United Kingdom, Mr Cox, in returning thanks, explained that it was hardly correct to class him as belonging to the Liberal party, as the policy of the Irish members was to identify themselves with no English party. They were, however, honorable allies of the Liberal, party since it had declared itself in favor of extending justice to Ireland, lie did not believe in coming to New Zealand to wash the dirty political linen of the Irish party. He and others with him had given up a leader whom they loved for the sake of a cause they adored ; not that they loved Mi Parnell less, but that they loved Ireland more. He would have great pleasure in conveying to Mr Gladstone the expressions of high esteem towards him used by the deputation. He regretted the absence of his friend Sir G Grey, whom he had met at Adelaide and Sydney a few weeks ago, and whom ho hoped to meet again in Wellington. In conclusion he expressed his highest confidence in Mr Gladstone, who would, he believed, live to finish the great work upon which he bad set his heart—viz , the granting of Heme Rule to Ireland. Mr A. E. Kemslcy, a member of the National Liberal Club of London, was introduced to the deputation. Mr Kemsby arrived by the Wairarapa from Sydney. Mr Kcmslcy said that he had recently left England.
