[Pib United Press Association,} WELLINGTON. September 4. Charles Lindegreen, who was convicted of forgery on Monday, and remanded for inquiry, by the probation officer, was to-day sentenced to six months' imprisonment, the report being unfavorable. The Licensing Bench granted a large number of extensions till 11 p.m., but refused all applications for twelve o’clock licenses. Mr F. H. Fraser, a member of the Committee, dissented from all the extensions. OAMARU, September 4. At the quarterly meeting of the Damarn Licensing Committee to-day the phbuoans of the town applied for an extension oi the honr of clos-ng to 11 p.m , bat the application was refused. INVERCARGILL, September 4. Ttas Education Board to-day decided to appoint a truant officer, to act also as drill instruotpr, at a salary of LlflO a year. This action was taken because trnanoyls life in the town. At the; Police. Ooorfc James McNair,: canvasser for the ‘PioturMque Atlas,’ was fined L 5 and costs (L2) for assaulting a Subscriber by striking hinrtm the face.
