The marine inquiry into the loss of the Gambler has begun. Captain Bell attributed the catastrophe to the Easby failing to port her helm as required by the regulations. The starboard boat was capsized owing to the passengers clutching at the chain attached to the Gambler’s side. When the vessel sank the boat was drawn under by the davits, A CORRECTION. MELBOURNE, September 4. According! to the Underwriters’ Association it should be the Ellen Riokman which is posted as missing, and not the Vestemnnde.
