FOOTBALL.
The annual match between toamfi representing the Postal and Telegraph staffs took place yesterday. The ground was very heavy, owing to reoent rain, Which had a very serious effect on the heavy, powerful forwards in tbe Postal team, whose lack of condition soon placed them hors de combat. The game, which was principally a forward one, suited the light, dribbling team of the Telegraphists, who speedily rattled up 8 points to.nil, tries, being scored by Roberts, Carr, Naumann, Crawshaw, Churchill, and Johnston, only one being enhanced, Crawshaw placing the goal. Among the Postals Maolaughlin, Bain, Kelly, Ferens, Macartbnr, and Williams tried hard to avert defeat. Mr 0. Crawfurd acted as referee. A match between teams composed of employ da of the Tramway Company and ‘Globe’ Office, Was At Monteolllo yesterday afternoon. The game was a very even one, the newspaper men just managing to score a win by 1 point to nil. TO-MORROW'S MATCHES. The annual interprovinoial match, Otago v, Southland, will be played at the Can'sbrook Ground to morrow afternoon, at 3 o’clock. Tbe Southland team will arrive by tonight’s express. The local men are slightly favorites. ASSOCIATION. Burnside v. Northern, at Burnside.— Burnside: Smith, Easton, J. Morland, R. Motland, James, Donaldson, Hamilton, Turner, Scott, Kane, Campbell. Northern: Walker, Munro, Beath, M'Leod, Bnnciman, Sharp, M’Donald, Bowden, M'Donald, Duncan, Brunton. Tbe Rangers play a practice match on the Northern Club’s ground at North-east Valley.
