THE FEMALE FRANCHISE.
It is currently whispered in the lobbies of the House that Mr Fish has succeeded in making terms with the Government on the above question, with the result that the female franchise will not go into effect until after the next General Election.
On learning that the extension of the franchise was to be postponed till 1894 Miss H. M. Morrison sent the following telegram to the Premier and the city and suburban members of the House :
Federated Tailoresses' Council, representing 2,000 working women, indignantly protest against proposed suspension of woman's franchise, which, as a matter of right and justice, should come into tfleot at once. We hope the Ministry will jastify their claims to liberality by immediately conferring this right on those who have so far loyally supported them.
Miss Niool, as local secretary of the women's franchise movement, also telegraphed to Sir John Hall this afternoon : "Strong indignation felt by women in Dunedin at prospect enfranchisement being suspended, Rather than right be hung up till 1894 counsel withdrawal Bill." And to the Premier she wired that there is a " strong feeling of indignation felt by women in proposed suspension women's suffrage. Our hope lies in Liberal Ministry."
