Saturday, July 25. (Before Messrs C. Alien and F. 0. Neill, J.P.p.) Drunkenness.— -Two first offenders were convicted and discharged. Vagrancy.— Archibald Peats 111) pleaded gnilty to a charge of having Insufficient lawful means of support.—Sergeant major Bern said that the boy had been summoned by the police for his own good. He would not work, and he slept out at nights, and induced other boys to commit theft, doing a great deal of harm to the boys in the neighborhood. The other day he made a boy go into his mother’s house and steal bread for him.—Sergeant Morice slated that the boy’s father had expressed a wish that the boy should be sent to gaol.— Constable Higgins, in bis evidence, said that the boy was m the habit of sleeping in a pigstye.—i'ha father of the accused said he did not know what to do w.th the boy. He had sent him to work both in town and country, but ho would not keep to it. Witness was wiling to give the boy another chance.— The accused sa'd he had nothing to say for himself, and admitted that all that had been stated was true.—The Bench said they wonld give accused another chance, and aojourn the case for a week. If the boy was not then in employment he would be sent to gaol. Hawking Meat in Roblyh. —Arthur Smith, defender by Mr Solomon, pleaded nor. guilty to a charge of hawking meat in Boalyn without a license.—The evidence showed that defenda nt, who is in Mr Lawrence’s employ, was simply delivering meat at a house in Littlebsurne, and not hawking —The cane was dismissed. Christopher Dagg was also charged with haakiug meat in ttoslyn without having a license to do sc.— After evidence, the Bsnoh said they considered the case proved. Defendant would be fined 255, the cost of a month’s license, and costs (7») I.R.ACH of the Peace.— Robert Thompson was charged with behaviour in Manse street last night whereby a breach of the peace was occasioned. Mr Hanlon appeared for accused, who pleaded not guilty.—Constable uough gave evidence for the prosecution,—For the defence Robert Thompson and Matthew Miller gave evidence, after which thu Bench dismissed the case.
