ALLEGED DUMMYISM.

An inquiry into the case of alleged dnmmyism in connection with a section at Mangamahao, Northern Wairarapa, was commenced befoie the Wellington Land Board yesterday. Mr Gully, Crown Prosecutor, conducted the examination of witnesses, and the other parties interested were represented by counsel. Henry Batsey, who held the section referred to, said It was bordering on Mr C. E. Beetham’s property at Te Aute, Mr Beetham advanced him the money to pay the transfer of the property from the original owner, witness giving him security over certain land at Hastings. Witness took np the land in November 1889, hot be did not go npon the section until abont a month ago. Ratsey swore that he was a bona fide applicant for the land, and that he still intended to keep it. C. E, Beetham stated that he bad been deputed to look ont for a good piece of land for Ratsey, and he wanted the section under consideration to complete a block he had arranged to purchase. He looked npon the land as belonging to Ratsey, bnt he (witness) was controlling it for him with the ultimate view of seeing him settle on it. Other witnesses gave evidence that the bush on the section had all been felled since Ratsey took it np. After some deliberation the Board passed a resolution declaring that the charges against Ratsey of having committed breaches of the Land Act had been, absolutely disproved,
