1 Black-eyed Susan ’ was repeated at the Princess’s Theatre last evening, and drew a large audience. The burlesque, which abounds in songs, dances, and some sharp and apt repartee went with all possible smartness. Mr Sheridan was prominent in his humor, and was full of local allusions, which “ took ” the audience. A word of praise is due to Miss Whiteford for her vivacious Susan, this young lady receiving floral offerings during the evening for her acceptable singing. The other members of the company also lent valuable aid in supporting Mr Sheridan, there being little room for fault-finding with any of them. Tonight ' Uncle Tom’s Cabin ’ will be staged, and, as the company only perform here two more evenings, those who would enjoy a pleasant evening should not miss the opportunity. Our Melbourne correspondent writes:— “ Many of your readers will regret to learn of the death of Mr B. W. Cary, who was the Pirate King with the original ‘ Pirates of Penzance ’ troupe in Dunedin. He was admitted into the Melbourne Hospital on the 28tb ulk, and died half an hour afterwards in a state of collapse. It appears that on the previous day he was seized with an attack of vomiting blood, and was attended by Dr Amess, where he was lodging—the Prince of Wales Hotel, Church street, Richmond. He appeared to rally somewhat, but on Sunday morning suddenly became worse, and was taken to the hospital. Deceased, who was known in Melbourne as “New Zealand Gary,” some years back hod the management of the concerts at the Temperance Hall, and he himself was in the habit of singing at dinners, etc. He was a widower, forty-two years of age, and leaves three children, the eldest of whom is a son about sixteen years of age. Recently fortune had not smiled on Cary, and he was on the down grade when death overtook him.”
