DEPARTURE OF HIS EXCELLENCY.
A large crowd of some hundreds of people assembled on the platform at the railway station this morning, when His Excellency the Governor, accompanied by Lords Scott and Carrington, left for the North by special train. Amongst those assembled to bid them farewell were Mr John Roberts (president of the Exhibition), Mr Oscar Meyer (Commissioner for New South Wales), Mr Twopeny (Executive Commissioner), Mr Joubert (General Manager), and a number the Commissioners, including Messrs Mills, D. Stewart, Allen, and Ross, M.H.R.s. Colonel Wales and Major Goring were also present.
His Excellency and party proceed to Wellington and thence to Auckland. Lord Onslow was accompanied by Captain Saville, aide-de-camp, and Lords Scott and Carrington by their private secretaries. As the train moved off from the platform, three hearty cheers were given for the Governor, who, in bidding good-bye for the present to Dunedin, had expressed wellwishes to the president and general manager of the Exhibition for its continued success. The Hon. Mr Hislop also left for the North by the same train.
