SUICIDE AT NORTH EAST TALLEY.
Catherine Nicholson, wife of Mr Nichols o ar ewspaper runner, who resides at Selwyn, North-east Valley, committed suicide last evening by swallowing a quantity of “rough on rats." She appears to have been drinking of late, and it seems that she was either under the influence of liquor at the time she took the poison or that she was suffering from the effects of drink. As soon as it w:s discovered that the woman had swallowed the poison Constable Walker was communicated with and Dr Macphcrson sent for. The doctor, on arriving at the house, saw that M.s Nicho'son was in a dangerous condition, and that no time would have to be lost in applying suitable remedies. This was done, and at one time the worn.n seemed bett-r, hut aftc- lingering throughout the night she expired at an early hour this uiornim. An inquest was held at deceased’s residence this afternoon.
